Alaminos City, Pangasinan - Hundred Islands

Hundred Islands

The Hundred Islands National Park is located in Alaminos City, Pangasinan. There are approximately 123 islands that compose the Hundred Islands, hence its name. The white sand beaches, caves, limestone formations and abundant marine life of these islands can be explored by island hopping in a motorized boat.

Lucap wharf

All tourists must register with the Tourism Information Center at Lucap Wharf (pictured above). The motorboat rates for Day Tour: PhP 800 for a small boat (1-5 passengers), PhP 1000 for medium boat (6-10 passengers) and PhP 1100 for large boat (11-15 passengers). The boat rates include island hopping to three developed islands for tourists - Governor's Island, Children's Island and Quezon Island. You may choose in which island you want to stay for the rest of the day and inform the boatmen on what time they should pick you up.

The boat rental rates are a bit higher during night trips or when you want to hire the boatmen exclusively - that is, they will wait for you in every island that you want to explore. The rates are: PhP 1400 for a small boat (1-5 passengers), PhP 1800 for medium boat (6-10 passengers) and PhP 2000 for large boat (11-15 passengers).

Since we wanted to explore much of the islands and not just stay in one place, we opted to hire a motorized boat for our exclusive use. Our first stop was Governor's Island.

The viewing deck in Governor's Island, Hundred Islands National Park

We climbed about a hundred or more steps to be able to reach the viewing deck in Governor's Island. The view was awesome but it was too hot! You must bring a hat or scarf and apply sunblock to shield you from the sun's rays. And bring a lot of bottled water; it is too expensive if you will buy in the islands. You may also bring your own food in the islands. Just be sure to collect your trash and take them with you. It is nice to note that the islands are very clean because of strict policies being implemented.

Also located in Governor's Island is the only guest house available in these islands - the Governor's House, renamed as the Pinoy Big Brother House after it was used for that reality show. It can be rented for PhP 10000 per night.

Jellyfish abound in Governor's Island. Beware of its sting!

In Children's Island, there are cottages that can be rented overnight for about PhP 2000. Quezon Island is ideal for picnickers and campers. A tent can be pitched here for PhP 200 overnight (camping fee). Tent rental is PhP 400. We were not able to dock in these two popular islands because they were already crowded with people and there was no space for us. The summer months of March-May are really peak times.

Marcos Island in Hundred Islands

Marcos Island is not as developed as the others but the sand here is finer and whiter.  In Marcos Island, the Imelda cave can also be found (but of course!). Tourists/guests may swim in the cave with blue-green waters but be sure to wear a life vest as the water is deep.

The beach in Marcos Island is good for swimming. If it is too hot, you can take shelter under the limestone formation/cliff. It's just hard to find a swimming place when there are so many boats docked on the beach!

Another stop was Cuenco Cave. It was so cool inside the cave and we stayed here for a while to relax and savor the view. Thankfully, there were no bats inside.

We just passed by the Bat Island as there was no docking area here. And that was fine; after all, who would want to stay close to the bats? Luckily, we were able to take close up shots of the bats. They were like black fruits hanging from the trees!
