Chubby Habbi’s Mediterranean Grill
Mediterranean cuisine is very popular due to its published health benefits. Good news for health-conscious Los Banos, Laguna residents and tourists – Chubby Habbi’s Mediterranean Grill serves reasonably-priced but delicious Mediterranean food that even the average college student can afford.
Griyego (Greek) Salad
For appetizer, we had the Griyego Salad (Greek Salad) consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, white cheese and olives served with garlic dressing. At PhP 80, this was a steal!
Lamb Chop with Biryani Rice
Fortunately, the lamb chop was available at that time so we were able to try it. I was expecting the lamb chop to be very expensive but I was surprised as it only costs PhP 150, including the buttered rice. We upgraded the buttered rice to biryani rice for an additional PhP 25. I was really excited to eat the lamb chop! It was tasty but the meat was kind of tough and chewy but I managed to finish it off.
Beef Koobideh with Buttered Rice
Beef Koobideh (PhP 95) is one of the bestsellers of Chubby Habbi. The combination of minced beef, “secret spices,” parsley and chopped onions was the best-tasting for me. The beef koobideh may look dry in the photo but really, it tastes delicious on its own but is more intense, even exquisite, when eaten with the garlic sauce. This magic garlic sauce, frothy and smooth, makes me want to come back to Chubby Habbi again and again. Anything it touches turns appetizing!
According to the staff, students usually order the Shawarma Plate. Aside from being affordable to them at PhP 90, the shawarma plate is a complete meal in itself – slices of beef, minced tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and buttered rice served with the fantastic garlic sauce. Even if we already ordered too much food, we still wanted to sample the shawarma plate. (I paid the consequence later – tummy ache from overeating and believe it or not, I wasn’t able to eat dinner that day. Worth the pain, though!) By the way, the quoted prices did not include the iced tea but at PhP 35 per big glass, it was very inexpensive. If we weren’t so full already, we would have wanted to try the eggplant pizza (PhP 90), chubby shawarma (PhP 80) or hummus with pita (PhP 60). Well, definitely next time when we come back for the garlic sauce.
