Sol Y Viento (Sun and Wind) is a new hot spring resort in Makiling Heights, Calamba City, Laguna. It is located on top of a hill, providing guests with a relaxing ambiance and stunning views of Laguna Lake and Mt. Makiling.
The resort is perfect for retreats, family outings, team building, weddings, etc.
Sol Y Viento resort has one hot spring pool, one lagoon swimming pool, and three public Jacuzzis with natural hot spring water. The Jacuzzis are located on the topmost part of the hill so you can just imagine the priceless view!
When we dipped into the pool, the water was just the right temperature – not too hot nor too cold. This warm temperature made us stay long in the water, just relaxing in the wading pool or in one of the Jacuzzis. However, you would not be able to do swimming laps because of the pool’s shape and relatively small size.
Sol Y Viento hot spring resort has 8 cabana suites and 36 dormitory rooms. We opted to stay in the cabana because it has its own indoor Jacuzzi with unlimited use. We really loved this amenity because we were able to use the Jacuzzi to our hearts’ content. But be prepared though for some malfunctions of the Jacuzzi; sometimes the water stopped flowing from the faucet even though the Jacuzzi was not yet full and sometimes the spouts would keep on flowing even when you pushed the drain button and even the drain would not work. Just be ready to call the front desk when these things happen. The cabana rate is PhP 3500 for 2 persons and PhP 4500 for 4 persons. If you are on a tight budget, you may stay in the dormitory for PhP 600 for a minimum of 4 persons. But of course, there’s no indoor Jacuzzi in the dormitory.
The view of Sol Y Viento at night is impressive. The swimming pools and Jacuzzis have underwater lights that change colors. The pathways are also well-lighted and you will be treated to a magnificent view of the resort’s environs at night.
We only tried the resort’s restaurant for breakfast as we had out dinner at Pho Hanoi Restaurant at Bgy. Halang, Calamba City (about 15 minutes away from the Sol y Viento Resort). The set breakfast was priced at PhP 200 per plate and you may choose from tapa, ham, or bacon and was served with coffee or hot Milo. If I had my way, I would just take my breakfast at a fastfood joint.
I was really amazed with Sol Y Viento’s Resort facilities. If only for these, I would keep coming back to this hot spring resort. But one thing I’m really concerned about is the customer service – it was inefficient and slow. Well, maybe the relatively new resort management and staff are still in the adjustment phase but they should improve their customer service soon.
